I was born in Sacramento, California, in 1949. In 1969, during the Vietnam War, I was drafted into the U.S. Army where I became a medic with the 5th Special Forces Group until I was honorably discharged in 1972. I married in 1974 and was blessed with three wonderful daughters, but a difficult divorce in 1993 separated me from them for many years. I worked in government and politics until the early 1980s when I began about 30 years as a social studies teacher. I remarried in 1998, and we share the pleasure of 10 grandchildren. My personal interests include camping, reading and writing, fly-fishing, and songwriting. But my greatest passion is talking to people about “us”, the human family. That soul-level delight led me to begin this blog and the podcast, “Something Happening Here” that I share with Mary Parham.
